Gig Review - Wendy Oldfield Band
The set opens with young Ben Badenhorst playing a solo set. He plays with such a maturity its hard to think that this young man is only 21. What an unusual and brilliant performance. i wish he could play more, but i remember thats its Ms O coming on shortly and i cant wait for her set to begin.
Gig Review - Ben Badenhorst & Neil Thunderbolt
Truelly more than just a gifted guitrist , Ben Bandenhorst weaves a soundscape of melodies and textures you have not quite heard before. unique and inspiring sees the team of 2 very comfortable entities on stage , quite at ease and obviously enjoying the music they are creating. Funky world rythyms and super groovy bass lines... laid down ..solid. The gig was not as full as it should have been...cummon Knysna ...its finally coming to your doorstep..... celebrate !
Gig Review - Butterflies and Beatles
What a treat to see something fresh and local. The lovely combination of Accoustic guitar ( Kent ) and djembe ( Patrick) and Bass ( Emil ) very slick and funky. Louise Leggett - our very own local - pulled off some very stylish vocals - one would'nt say that she only performs every now and then. My personal fave was their rendition of Sonja Herlolds - Ek verlang na jou . Done with quite an alternative feel - Kent and Loiuse singing an Octave apart ( their voices sound fantastic together ). I also loved the last song - i never got the name , but i think it was an original piece - got me dancing!! I think we should make more room in front of the stage so people take more easily to dancing - one has to squeeze between the tables .../
Gig review - Magna Carta
When Tom got on stage one could feel the comfortability of a seasoned performer with many gigs under his belt take over. His stories were classic and he made us all laugh. His songs are beautiful and the lyrics quite poingnant and yet sweet and simple. Chriss harmony work and guitaring fitted so nicely in with everything and the show was all in all a treat. Its a pity so many people chat as if there is no one on the stage and they have not paid the R80 to get in. Magna had to ask the audience to keep it to a dull roar - which was a bit embarassing - Knysna has got quite a reputation for that -!!!! lets hope we can educate people not to be such philistines !!!
Gig Review - The Swing Cafe launches!
Off with a bang!! Approximately 400 people moved in and out The swing during the coarse of the evening. Opening the music was the Offshore Jazz ensemble on the deck - styling it. Then the Bluezboyz took off inside with some smoking bluez and then Wendy Oldfield strutted her stuff to a captivated audience. The DJ star Wors started off with some skanky rock tunes and moved over to funk rock and drumnbass. - the people were squished on the dance floor and no one wanted to go home. The owners Dereck and Marc were talked and complimented off there feet and a fantastic time was had by all. The bar men and woman seriously needed to be congratulated after the evening for managing ( first night ) to keep things running and everyone with a drink in their hand. If this is a taste of things to come ......well.....
Gig Review - Arno Carstens & Albert Frost
When Arno and Albert walked into the venue at about 8 pm - the vibe was incredible. They went into the dressing room and tuned up, got ready for their last show of the tour. Wendy o introduced them and said that they needed no introduction as the proof would be in the pudding .... and did we have pudding!!!
